Yes. We recommend no more than two layers of vinyl flooring at a time. If you already have two layers, we suggest you put down new wood underlayment before installing your tiles. If you have only one layer of vinyl, prepare the floor with Armstrong One-Part Embossing Leveler, to prevent the old vinyl pattern from telegraphing through the new pattern of tile flooring.

Does "no-wax" flooring mean I don't have to perform maintenance on my floor?

No. No-wax means your floor has a coating which does not require you to buff and wax your flooring. Armstrong invented the no-wax floor surface many years ago. We recommend vacuuming or sweeping regularly, and washing as needed with Once 'n Done® , our no-rinse cleaner.

What tools will I need to install my tile floor?

You'll need just the basics -- a tape measure, a pencil, a chalk line and chalk, a carpenter's square or metal ruler, a sharp utility knife and a roller (a kitchen rolling pin will do).

Why should I roll my floor after installation and what should I use?

Armstrong always recommends rolling vinyl flooring after installation. Use an ordinary kitchen rolling pin and roll the flooring from the center to the outside edges. With 12" X 12" vinyl tile, rolling activates the pressure-sensitive adhesive on the back of each tile and ensures a strong bond to the subfloor.

Do I need to buy glue even though I'm putting in self-stick tiles?

No extra glue is needed. Self-stick tiles are backed with specially formulated pressure-sensitive adhesive. Make sure the subfloor is clean and free of dust, dirt, oil and paint. Then roll the floor with a kitchen rolling pin after installation.

Will there be seams in the floor and will they open after time?

With 12" X 12" tiles you will have many seams in the floor. Armstrong manufactures its vinyl tile to the tightest and squarest tolerances in the industry. Therefore, Armstrong tiles have the snuggest fit. Vinyl flooring is resilient though, which means it can expand and contract with temperature changes. For this reason, we suggest putting the boxes of tile in the room where they are to be installed 48 hours prior to installation. This allows the tile to become acclimated and reach room temperature. Tiles that are too cool or too warm when installed will react to the room temperature and either expand or contract.

I have a damaged tile. What can I do to repair or replace it?

For this very reason, we suggest always buying several extra pieces of your vinyl tile pattern. A damaged tile is very simple to remove and replace. Heat the damaged tile with a hair dryer until pliable. Then pry the tile out of position with a putty knife. Remove the adhesive residue from the subfloor and place a new tile into position. Your floor is fixed!

My furniture has faded due to sunlight. Can I expect sunlight to affect my flooring as well?

Vinyl flooring is susceptible to damage from UV rays. We suggest putting blinds over sliding glass doors and closing curtains on extremely sunny days, so your flooring doesn't yellow from direct and prolonged exposure to the sun.
