Vinyl Sheet Flooring

Vinyl Installation Guide

FLOOR PREPARATION

STEP 1: Remove Tackless

Preparing the floor properly for installation is the
most important step in installing vinyl sheet flooring
because the slightest grain of sand or a rough surface
will be easily visible in any room.

All tackless strip from prior installation must be
removed and flash patched (leveled) to a smooth
     finish. (See below).

In addition the floor surface itself  must be completely
level and all lumps and divots shaped to make a very
     smooth surface.

Obviously, any existing carpet should be removed and
previously installed vinyl should either be removed or
Skim Coated (leveled) to a smooth finish.

STEP 2: Flash Patch

Flash Patching (leveling) the floor is critical for a
professional vinyl installation. We suggest that you
use the materials which are recommended by the
     manufacturer you have chosen.

Generally Flash Patch is distributed in powder form
and water is added to give the product a texture
slightly denser than pancake mix and takes about 30
     minutes to dry.

At times it may be necessary to use a sander to give
     the floor a smooth finish.

STEP 3: Broom Sweep

It is imperative that the floor be broom swept very
thoroughly prior to application of your recommended
     adhesive.

Remember that even a small grain of sand can be an
eye sore to the appearance of the floor and would be
extremely difficult to repair after the floor is installed.

This is a good time to re-examine your floor surface
to eliminate any chucks of concrete which peak above
the level floor surface such as in the case of a concrete
floor. A hammer and chisel may be required to chisel
the excess to a level surface.

It is equally important to fill in any crevices in the
surface of the floor. An uneven floor can cause the
vinyl to puncture, causing an obvious flaw in the vinyl
and a time consuming repair job.

STEP 4: Vacuum Floor

After you  have flash patched your floor and have
thoroughly swept your floor, I strongly recommend
that you vacuum the floor prior to applying the
     adhesive.

It is quite easy to leave residue soil, sand and excess
Flash Patch material on the floor surface.

Once you are certain that your floor is level and clear
of any debris, you are ready to start your installation !
