Carpet Floor Plans

Proper placement of seams and a professional carpet installer
is  equally important as  the quality of carpet you purchase.

Improper placement of seams is critical to the life of the carpet
and should be placed when possible in the areas with the least
     amount of traffic.

Below you will see a floor plan for a small 3 bedroom home.

See if you can figure out where the seams should go using 12'
width carpet and go to the floor plan  to see how it should be
     done.

I make it a practice to offer at least 2 different layouts to my
customers,  so I included an alternate layout  (better) also.

General Rules

Avoid placing seams in high traffic areas  when possible.

Maximize the length of each cut of carpet so the waste
left over will be in longer pieces and can be used to do
the area in longer (therefore less) seams.

The carpet direction (grain) should always be in the same
direction, otherwise the carpet will appear to be two
          different colors.

Tests have shown that adding a padding under the carpet
will increase the life of the carpet. Most manufacturers
do not recommend any padding which exceeds ½" in
          height.
